From medical terminology — when a heart monitor shows a flat line, the patient is dead. In Night City's violent culture, it became a casual verb for murder.

Usage History

Used since the original TTRPG. Central to Cyberpunk 2077's vocabulary. The in-game achievement system is literally called 'Flatlined.'

Taboo Trajectory

Not technically a curse word but a violent slang term. Its casual use reflects Night City's extreme desensitization to violence.
