SpongeBob SquarePants systematically replaces all profanity with sea-themed equivalents. 'Holy shrimp' replaces 'holy shit' following the same pattern as 'oh for cod's sake' and 'what the halibut.'

Used across SpongeBob's 14+ seasons (1999-present). The 'Sailor Mouth' episode (Season 2) made the show's profanity substitution system itself the subject of comedy.

Deliberately mild — it's a children's show. But the substitution system is so consistent that adult viewers understand exactly what's being replaced.

Part of an evolving system. New nautical substitutions are added each season while old ones persist.
