Why, you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!
Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher)

Nerfs are large, smelly herd animals in the Star Wars galaxy. Herding them is unglamorous, low-status work. The insult implies someone is crude and beneath notice.

Used in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Became one of Star Wars' most quoted insults. Referenced in countless parodies and homages.

Mild by any standard. It's the Star Wars equivalent of calling someone a farmer or yokel. Its fame comes from Carrie Fisher's delivery, not its severity.

Remained a mild insult. Most famous for Leia's delivery. Has not evolved beyond its original usage.

Galaxy-wide term. Nerfs exist on many planets.
